handful of guys who can be trusted to tune the car and fully utilize these higher end standalones to get the money's worth, and the majority of folks do not have access to these guys. SZ only recently started road-tripping, or at least I never read about it prior to a couple of years ago. So if you aren't going to get the car to someone who can truly make use of a nice piece of gear like that, then you are simply loading a cookie-cutter program that someone else did, with maybe some small changes....seems a waste of money when you can do just that with a cookie-cutter chip, or a less extensive box like Nistune. Anybody can bolt on mods, and any number of shops can build motors, but like you said, the magic comes out in the tuning. I couldnt justify shelling out big bucks for something that I was only going to utilize at a level which I could get from a much less expensive solution.
